Its name means “silver” in Croatian—an homage to the pale, rounded stones that appear to shimmer in the moonlight. Wild enough to retain its natural character yet accessible enough for a relaxed day beside the sea, Srebrna is deservedly one of the best-known beaches on Vis.
Srebrna takes its name from the silvery glow created when moonlight falls across its smooth, pale stones. The effect is especially atmospheric in the evening, when the bright shoreline contrasts with the darker sea and surrounding pine forest.
Those rounded stones have been shaped over time by the open Adriatic. During rougher winter conditions, waves roll and polish the rocks, continually reshaping the beach.
The result is a shoreline quite different from the fine gravel found elsewhere: Srebrna’s stones are larger, brighter and unmistakably part of its character. Vis Tourist Board
The water at Srebrna is exceptionally clear, shifting between deep blue and luminous turquoise as the light changes. It is an inviting place for swimming and snorkelling, particularly around the rocky sides of the bay.
Behind the beach, Mediterranean pines provide natural shade and the rhythmic sound of cicadas. Broad stone terraces extend along parts of the shoreline, creating warm platforms for sunbathing away from the main pebble beach.
This combination gives visitors a choice: settle beneath the trees, find a place among the white stones or stretch out on the sun-warmed rocks.
Srebrna is widely considered one of the most family-friendly natural beaches on Vis. The short approach from the parking area and generous pine shade make it easier to manage with children than beaches requiring a steep climb or arrival by boat.
However, this remains a natural pebble beach rather than a developed resort. Water shoes can make entering the sea more comfortable, particularly for younger children, and normal supervision is important when waves arrive from the open sea.
The Vis Tourist Board identifies Srebrna as a popular choice for families with children. Vis Tourist Board
Srebrna is located near Rukavac, on the southern side of Vis.
Follow the island road towards Rukavac and then the local signs for Srebrna. Travelling by car, scooter or taxi is the simplest option.
Drive across the island towards Vis and continue in the direction of Rukavac. Allow additional time and take care on the island’s narrower roads.
If you are staying in Rukavac, Srebrna can be reached on foot. The exact walking time will depend on the location of your accommodation.
The road leads to a parking area approximately 250 metres from the beach. From there, continue on foot along the marked path towards the water.
The walk is relatively short, but the terrain is natural and may be dusty or uneven. Shoes or sandals with a secure grip are more practical than loose flip-flops. Vis Tourist Board
Facilities can change between seasons, so Srebrna should not be treated like a fully serviced resort beach. Seasonal refreshments, toilets, changing facilities or sunbed rental may be available, but visitors should not depend upon every service operating throughout the year.
Bring:
Even with natural pine shade, it is sensible to carry additional sun protection during the hottest part of the day.
In July and August, arrive early if you want an easy parking space and a good position beneath the trees. Morning also offers cooler temperatures and a quieter atmosphere.
Late afternoon brings softer light and can be particularly beautiful for photography. But to understand how Srebrna earned its name, stay until evening and watch the pale stones begin to glow as daylight fades.
May, June and September generally offer a calmer experience, although the availability of seasonal facilities may be more limited.
Srebrna was one of several Vis locations used during the filming of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The beach appears during the romantic moonlit sequence featuring young Donna and Sam—an especially fitting choice for a shoreline celebrated for its silver glow.
Other scenes from the film were created around Vis town, Komiža, Stiniva and the bays of Barjoška and Barjaci. Vis Tourist Board
Srebrna is beautiful without trying too hard. There are no grand entrances or towering cliffs—only white stones, sculpted rock, clear Adriatic water and the scent of pine carried on the sea breeze.
Come for a morning swim, remain beneath the trees through the afternoon, or stay long enough to see the shoreline take on the silvery glow that gave the beach its name.
Some places on Vis impress through drama. Srebrna wins you over more quietly—and then stays with you.
