If you want to see Vis from the sea, Nemo Boats offers everything from a full trip around the island to a quick water taxi across Vis Bay.
Nemo is a local family business based in Vis Town Harbour. The company grew out of Dodoro, the boat business previously run by the owner’s grandfather and father, continuing a family connection with the sea that now spans several generations. Today Nemo runs boat tours, private transfers and rentals, as well as shorter snorkelling and sunset trips.
Around Vis by Boat
The main excursion is a speedboat trip around Vis, leaving Vis Town in the morning and returning in the early afternoon. It is a good way to see how different the island looks from the water, while reaching places that are difficult or impossible to visit by road.
The route normally begins with the old submarine tunnel in Parja Bay, where the boat can enter the former military shelter. From there it continues towards Biševo and the Blue Cave, before returning to the Vis coastline for swimming stops. Depending on the day and sea conditions, the itinerary includes Molo Pritišćina, Stiniva Bay, the Green Cave, Budihovac and Smokova Beach. There is plenty of time in the water along the way, and masks and snorkels are provided.
The complete tour takes around 6.5 hours. Cave entrance tickets are separate from the boat tour, and as with any trip at sea, the exact route can change when weather or sea conditions require it.
Rent a Boat or Arrange Your Own Trip
You do not have to join the full island tour. Nemo also arranges private boat trips and speedboat transfers between Vis and places such as Split, Hvar and Brač, as well as custom routes. This can be useful if you want to build your own day at sea or need a direct transfer rather than travelling by ferry.
For those who prefer to explore independently, Nemo has a BSC 6.1 RIB with a Yamaha 150 engine available without a skipper. A Category B boating licence is required. The larger boats in the fleet are rented with a skipper.
There are shorter options too. Nemo offers snorkelling trips, sunset cruises and an on-demand water taxi service within Vis Bay, so you do not necessarily need to set aside a whole day to get out on the water.
Before You Go
The shared island tour leaves from two points in Vis Town: the main ferry dock in Luka and Marina Kut. Other seaside pick-up points can sometimes be arranged in advance. Bring the same things you would for a day at the beach – swimwear, a towel, sun protection and some cash for cave tickets or refreshments.
Boat trips depend on the weather, so it is worth confirming the plan with Nemo before departure.
