Located by the popular Prirovo beach in Vis Town, Alavia Bar is one of those places where visitors quickly feel at home. Family-owned and operated, it offers a relaxed atmosphere where locals and tourists gather throughout the day for coffee, cold drinks and simple refreshments just a few steps from the sea.
Surrounded by palm trees and overlooking the open green area of Prirovo, Alavia is much more than a beach bar. Guests can enjoy a game of beach volleyball, challenge friends to billiards, or simply unwind in the shade while watching island life pass by. In the evening, the laid-back atmosphere makes it a favourite meeting place before dinner or a stroll along the waterfront.
The friendly owners are always happy to welcome new faces, and the family atmosphere is one of the reasons many visitors return year after year. Whether you’re taking a break from swimming, cycling around Vis, or enjoying a sunset drink, Alavia captures the easy-going spirit that makes the island so special.
The small Prirovo Peninsula has been at the heart of Vis for centuries. During Roman times, this was the site of the theatre of ancient Issa, the first Greek colony on the eastern Adriatic, later developed under Roman rule. In the early 16th century, Franciscan monks built the Church and Monastery of St. Jerome directly on top of the ancient Roman theatre, reusing marble and stone from the ruins in the church’s façade—a remarkable example of history layered upon history. Parts of the original Roman structure can still be seen within the monastery today.
